Immigration reform advocates mourn Kennedy’s death

The death of Ted Kennedy is sad news for many advocates of liberal causes. Senator Kennedy was a major proponent of immigration reform.  From his work on the Immigration Act of 1965 to his recent efforts with John McCain in 2008, he sought to revise American immigration laws that support families, our economy and human rights.  “Kennedy for 40 years has been the engine driving immigration legislation in Congress,” concedes Mark Krikorian, executive director of the conservative Center for Immigration Studies.  His extraordinary presence, dedication, and passion for immigrants will be sorely missed in future efforts to pass immigration reform.
